Year 9 Curriculum Information
Year 9 is a Key Stage 3 to 4 transition year where pupils maintain their study of Year 7 and 8 subjects and prepare to embark onto Level 2 programmes of study. The Year 9 curriculum is designed to be broad and balanced to enable the pupils to build on prior skills, knowledge and understanding they have gained. The ambitious curriculum motivates pupils to develop the knowledge and skills, resilience and depth of learning needed to succeed in school and later life as well as well as an understanding of particular subjects. Each subject has a planned learning journey with clear end points; setting out what pupils need to know, understand and do to reach their full potential leading to successful outcomes. Pupils are prepared to make positive and informed choices for their future at the end of the Key Stage.

At the point where pupils make their curriculum choices for Level 2 study in the upper school, pupils are able to make three choices from the following list of subjects:

The school’s VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) enables pupils to access subject information and learning resources remotely and allows pupils to begin to take more responsibility for their own learning and to follow their interests.

GCSE and Level 2 Information.
All Kingsford Community School pupils study a broad range of GCSE and Level 2 Qualifications which consist of GCSE, Cambridge Nationals and BTEC qualifications. As far as possible pupils are encouraged to take combinations of subjects which best meet their learning aptitudes, aspirations, needs and potential. Additional qualifications are also provided to stretch the most able. The school aim to provide a balanced curriculum which will enable all pupils to reach their full potential and achieve qualifications which will lead them to succeeding in their studies post 16, in higher education and in employment.
