Severe Weather Arrangements
Dear Parent or Carer,
Re: Kingsford Community School Severe Weather Procedure
In recent years the school has had to interrupt the education of our pupils on a very small number of occasions due to severe weather conditions. I would like to take this opportunity to outline for everyone the procedures the school will follow when weather conditions are especially severe, due to snow, ice or excessive rainfall. The procedure in such severe weather circumstances will be as follows:
From 6:30 a.m. on any day where the weather could prevent the school from opening, the website will state one of four positions:
- School Open as normal
- School Open to All Year Groups but severe weather timings in place
- School Open to Years 10 and 11 ONLY and severe weather timings in place
- School Closed due to severe weather
If position 2 or 3 has been adopted, please see a detailed explanation of what that position involves:
Position 2
If the “School Open to All Year Groups but severe weather timings in place” position is adopted, all students should delay their journey into school, and arrive for lessons which will start at 10:35 a.m. The day will then run as follows:
- 10:35 period 3 and morning registration
- 11:35 Lesson 4
- 12:25 Lunch
- 13:05 Lesson 5
- 14:00 Lesson 6 and afternoon registration
- 14:50 School ends
Position 3
If the “School Open: Years 10 and 11 ONLY and Severe weather timings in place” position is adopted this means that only students in Year Groups 10 and 11 are to attend school. The decision to adopt this position will be determined by the number of staff who can safely get to school. The day will run as follows for students in Years 10 and 11:
- 10:35 period 3 and morning registration
- 11:35 Lesson 4
- 12:25 Lunch
- 13:05 Lesson 5
- 14:00 Lesson 6 and afternoon registration
- 14:50 School ends
Please be assured that Kingsford will endeavor to keep the school open but the need may arise to send students home early should extreme weather arrive during the school day. In this eventuality the school website will indicate “Emergency Closure due to extreme weather”. If, due to travel arrangements or issues regarding gaining access to the home your child is unable to go home early, the school will keep your child at school until the normal school closure time.
In the event of severe weather students should wear footwear, such as wellington boots or shoes with plenty of grip as well as warm coats, gloves, hats and scarves appropriate to the conditions.
Yours sincerely,
Joan Deslandes
