School closure for national bank holiday - Monday 19th September

Sent from the Head Teacher

Dear {{recipient.title}} {{recipient.surname}},

As a school we received the news of Her Majesty the Queen’s passing on Thursday 8th September with profound sadness. She leaves this nation in mourning after a life of duty in which she bound the country together through 70 years of momentous change.

In the coming days, all pupils and staff will have the opportunity to take part in a whole school act of remembrance, and to reflect on the legacy that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has left for our nation and for our school. We also understand that the current climate throughout this period of national mourning may cause difficult memories to resurface for members of our community who have lost someone close to them. Throughout tutor time, and PSHE lessons, pupils will be given appropriate support and opportunities for reflection.

The Department of Education has now published guidance for schools, and we are able to confirm that Monday 19th September, the day of Her Majesty's state funeral, will be a national bank holiday. Kingsford Community School will be closed on this day. The school day will continue to run as normal until then.

Despite the sombre climate we currently face, it is wonderful to see all our pupils back in school and enthusiastic about the year of learning ahead.

We thank you for your ongoing support,

J Deslandes
